This was the first documentary that I directed, the fact that I had at one time been signed to Virgin records had nothing to with my getting the job, but it did help that Richard Branson remembered me from my days in a band. I thought that making a doc on Virgin would be pretty dry if all we had were record company guys and artists who were signed to the label singing its praises . We decided that we would enlist the comedian Harry Enfield to play various roles throughout the labels’ history, from its hippy days through punk and new wave up to the present day.
